About

Deaf-Hearing Interface, LLC (DHI) is an interpreter-owned and operated referral agency established in 2010. We provided exclusively face-to-face sign language interpreting services until the onset of COVID19, when we expanded our services to include HIPAA Complaint remote interpreting via Zoom. DHI is located in Northwest Philadelphia, and serves primarily Southeastern Pennsylvania and contiguous areas as needed. DHI interpreters work in a variety of settings including the arts, business, community, education, family events, government, medical, mental health, and political events.

DHI’s mission is to bridge the gap, both in language and culture, between Deaf/Hard of Hearing and hearing parties. DHI provides sign language interpreters of the highest quality who work independently and skillfully in a variety of settings to meet the communication and cultural needs of Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing consumers and hearing clients. DHI interpreters follow the Code of Professional Conduct established by The National Association of the Deaf (NAD) and the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, Inc. (RID), HIPAA and FERPA rules and regulations, and maintain tenets of confidentiality, professionalism, respect, and ethics.

DHI was founded by Julie Gould Marothy, nationally certified interpreter and educator. Julie began her teaching career in the 1980s working at Schools for the Deaf in New York and Pennsylvania. She holds a B.S. in Deaf Education from Indiana University of PA and a M.S. in Literacy from The University of Pennsylvania. Julie has been interpreting since 1994, and established DHI in 2010.
